Connect a Million Minds

A New Focus In Corporate Giving

Time Warner Cable believes it is important to support activities that strengthen the communities in which we operate. Over the years that support has taken many forms, but an overriding emphasis always has been on education.
Recently, after a comprehensive review of our national and local philanthropic efforts, TWC took a more focused approach to its giving strategy in order to drive more mea-

ningful and lasting benefit to its communities. Ultimately, we’ve decided this focus should be to inspire young people to build the skills they need - science, technology, engineering and math - to become the problem solvers of tomorrow.

Anchoring this initiative is a new website - www.connectamillionminds.com - where parents and community members can pledge to connect young people with the wonders of science. The site features “The Connectory”, a unique, free, zip code-searchable tool designed to help children and their parents find exciting STEM after-school opportunities in their communities.  Additional program highlights include: original PSAs that challenge public perceptions of STEM, grants to support non-profit organizations that bring high-quality after-school STEM learning to students and a robust volunteer commitment from TWC’s staff comprised of over 47,000 employees.

TWC’s national CAMM partners are CSAS (Coalition for Science After School) and FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), both of which offer valuable STEM opportunities nationwide.  They are joined by a National Advisory Board of entrepreneurs and STEM experts who guide the overall direction of the program.  The Board Members are: Jodi Grant, Executive Director of the Afterschool Alliance; Margaret Honey, Ph.D., President and CEO, New York Hall of Science, Joshua Schuler, Executive Director, Lemelson-MIT Program and Dean Kamen, President and CEO, DEKA Research & Development and Founder, FIRST.

What This New Focus Means for Current
Recipients of TWC Support

While this new focus means important changes for our company we also recognize it can mean changes for those organizations that currently receive our support. It is important to note, however, that TWC recognizes the quality and importance of all the organizations we work with. Our change in focus reflects the evolution of our philanthropic priorities and goals and not the effort and contribution of any recipients. With the launch of CAMM, the majority of our cash and in-kind giving will support organizations that align with its mission and focus.  Please visit the Apply for Support section of Connect a Million Minds for a deeper look at our giving guidelines.
